if you're traveling |
From the airport, take the Alajuela exit. You'll pass the new hospital on your right and the International Mall on your left. At the second traffic light, turn left, then move to the right lane. Stay in the right lane, following the road. It will curve sharply to the right, then to the left. After the traffic light opposite the "Total" gas station (bomba) on your left, move into the left lane.
Continue straight ahead and at the second light
(top of the hill) turn left.
Follow this new road for 4 km (about 2.5 miles). This road will also curve sharply to the right, then uphill into a community called Barrio San José (barrio means district). At the top of the hill as you arrive in Barrio San José, you will pass the Princesa Marina restaurant (a well-known local landmark) on your right. Continue straight ahead about 200 metres (2 long blocks) and as the road begins to rise again, turn left at the gas station Chamú (also known as the San José bomba). Follow this road 1 km, continuing past the end of the pavement. Take the first right turn, onto Calle Los Gringos (sign on the corner) Immediately after the first house on your left, turn left, onto a short downhill street. The Artists Refuge is at the end of this short street. |
